With Netflix continues to ride a wave of growing popularity for its South Korean production on the back of squid game‘s, the streamer has continued to release original K-dramas in their entirety with surprising frequency. And although these range from direct remakes (Money Heist: Joint Economic Area) to Korean versions of genre classics (a model family, Narco-Santos), it is the truly original stories that seem to enjoy the most success. Enter the latest: Failurea sci-fi comedy about UFOs, aliens, and religious cults that’s proudly weird, sometimes to its own detriment.

The show will almost certainly be popular, but will it return in the future?

Renewed or canceled status: will there be a season 2 of Glitch?

As always, with the show just released, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed or canceled it. They are likely to wait to see the impact of the show before making that kind of decision. Money talks and audiences sell, after all, so it will be worth keeping an eye on if the show makes it onto a website like the Netflix Top 10.

However, if we were to speculate, I’d say the chances of renewal are slim. While K-dramas are often popular on Netflix, they rarely get renewed. Failure seems to lend itself better to a sequel than most since the Failure ending it’s ambiguous, but creatively it may be preferable to keep it a one-time deal and let the audience fill in the blanks themselves.

When could Glitch season 2 be released on Netflix?

This is pure speculation, of course, but assuming that Failure gets renewed, I wouldn’t expect a heavy show like this to be filmed and finished too quickly. If it was greenlit before the end of the year and production took place in 2023, I suspect it will be released in early to mid-2024 at the earliest, and that’s assuming the show gets renewed in the first place.

Both Jeon Yeo-bin and Nana are essential to the narrative of the first season, and the show has very obviously been marketed around them as well. I hope they both come back. Since the show has a strong female friendship theme, it is to be expected that it will continue in the relationship between the two leads.
