Westlake adjusts in second half, outlasts Anderson 66-17

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Anderson was with Westlake during the half, but a big third quarter by the Chaps put an end to any pesky ideas.

Westlake led 35-17 at the half and posted a 66-17 victory over the Trojans on Friday at Chaparral Stadium.

After he was very effective in the first against the Chaps, Anderson’s quarterback Fred Dale threw three interceptions on the first three possessions of the second half. All the picks led to Westlake’s touchdowns to turn what was a competitive game into a blowout.

In the first half, Dale has 231 passing yards and hit second-year wide receiver Ed Small with two deep first-half touchdown passes. Dale entered the game ranked in the top 10 in all of Texas in passing yards and total yards, and Small was among the state leaders in receiving yards. But Westlake’s coaching staff did what they do and made fantastic coverage adjustments to turn the game around.

Judson Crockett had two of Westlake’s interceptions while Will Courtney had the other.

Anderson had 30 yards of offense in the second half as the Chaps clamped down on the Trojans’ passing game.

Westlake (6-0, 4-0) has a looming showdown with Dripping Springs for district leadership next week. Anderson (3-4, 1-4) faces Lake Travis next week.

The game will be rebroadcast on Saturday at 7:30 pm on KBVO.
