Trailer for ‘Velma’: spin-off of ‘Scooby-Doo’

UPDATE (October 7, 2022): HBO Max has shared the first official trailer for Velma – the next Scooby Doo cleave.

In the preview, fans get their first look at Velma Dinkley (voiced by Mindy Kaling), who is now reimagined as an Indian character. Also, Velma makes fun of the Internet’s reaction to her change in ethnicity and appearance.

“Dear HBO Max, I just found out you intend to do a Judy Jetson gender-swapping comic origin story,” Velma says in the preview. “When I heard that this new version of Judy Jetson wouldn’t be boy crazy, the only word I had to describe my disgust was ‘Jinkies!’ If there’s one thing the Internet agrees on, it’s that you should never change anything, ever. I hope you die!”

“Well, at least Judy’s still white,” he adds, before a serial killer mysteriously calls, bursts in and makes an appearance.

You can expect the rest of the mystery-solving gang to appear on the show: Sam Richardson as Shaggy, Constance Wu as Daphne, and Glenn Howerton as Fred. Unfortunately, Scooby-Doo will reportedly not appear.

Velma will begin streaming on HBO Max sometime in 2023. Watch the first official trailer above.


ORIGINAL STORY (October 6, 2022): HBO Max has turned to social media to tease its next Scooby Doo cleave Velmawith Mindy Kaling as lead voice actor and executive producer.

Unlike Scooby Doo, VelmaAlthough still lively, it is not suitable for children. The first official poster reiterates that, with Velma Dinkley’s glasses splattered with blood.

The official synopsis reads as follows: “Velma is an adult animated comedy series that tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the anonymous and underappreciated mastermind of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. An original and humorous twist that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of the Solvers. of America’s most beloved mysteries, executive producer Mindy Kaling will voice the title character. Charlie Grandy, Howard Klein and Sam Register also serve as executive producers. Velma is produced by Warner Bros. Animation.”

Most recently, Velma garnered attention online for coming out as a lesbian in the HBO Max Halloween-themed movie. Scooby-Doo Trick or Treat! However, it is not clear if Velma will continue to be part of the LGTBQ+ community in the new series.
