Shah noted that the “real development” of the northeast began only after Modi took office as prime minister in 2014.
The Home Secretary’s comments came at a Conclave of Dairy Cooperatives-2022 from the eastern and northeastern regions.
“In 75 years of independence, before Narendra Modi became prime minister, the northeast was considered just a tourist destination. After he became prime minister, the real development of the northeast began,” Shah said.
The Home Minister said that the government led by Prime Minister Modi has decided to establish 65,000 active Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS).
“The Narendra Modi government has decided to establish around 65,000 active PACS. We have decided that within five years each panchayat will have one PACS and one dairy each,” he said.
Earlier today, he arrived in Sikkim’s Gangtok on Friday to open the 2022 East and Northeast Dairy Cooperative Conclave.
People were seen on both sides of the road to receive the Minister of the Interior with the national flag in hand.
Sharing a video of the same, Shah tweeted: “Grateful to the people of Sikkim for such a warm reception in Gangtok. I am overwhelmed.”
He unveiled the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Raj Bhavan in Gangtok. The state governor, Ganga Prasad, was also present on the occasion.
Earlier today, he tweeted: “Departing for the northeast on my 3 day visit to Sikkim and Assam.
“2022 East and Northeast Dairy Cooperative Conclave” will open today in Gangtok, followed by a series of programs in Assam.”
Meanwhile, the national chairman of the Bharatiya Janata Party, JP Nadda, will also arrive in the northeast today to inaugurate the party’s largest office in the region.
