The crown Season 6 will be the last of the series. What do we know about the series so far? When will it premiere on Netflix? Here’s what we know about the season so far.
There was some back and forth on The crown season 6. While the series was originally planned as a six-season series, there was a point where Peter Morgan decided that it should end with the fifth season. He then realized that he didn’t have enough time for all the stories, so he went back to all six seasons.
Now all eyes are on when this final season will air. Of course, as of this writing initially, the fifth season has not arrived. There’s still some time left for this season, but here’s what we know so far.
The Crown season 6 release date predictions
There is no date yet, but we are looking The crown season 6 will arrive in November 2023. This would coincide with the release of previous seasons. The first two seasons were released a year apart, then there was a break until the next two seasons were released a year apart.
Every two seasons there is a cast change with a delay in returning to filming. We have that with season five, and we’re expecting it to come in November 2022. That would suggest only one year for the final season.
Cast of the sixth season of The Crown
The cast change is happening with season five, and that cast will stay through season six. The main cast is confirmed as:
- Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II
- Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
- Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret
- Dominic West as Prince Charles
- Meg Bellamy as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
- Rufus Kampa as young Prince William
- Ed McVey as the older Prince William
With the fifth season focusing on the untimely death of Diana, Princess of Wales, we won’t see the return of Elizabeth Debicki. We may see Claire Foy and Olivia Colman return as Queen Elizabeth II if there are any flashbacks.
We’re still waiting to see who will play Prince Harry, and it’s not yet clear if the show will go as far as Meghan Markle getting into the family.
The shooting of the sixth season of The Crown
Filming for the season began in September 2022. However, with the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, September 8, production was put on hold. The length of the hold is not known, but Variety shared that the innuendos will stop on the day of the Queen’s funeral. This would suggest that there will be time to film between those dates.
Suspended filming may delay the premiere of the series by a month. We are still hoping that the show will arrive in 2023.
The Crown Season 6 Plot
What could the final season bring us? Morgan hasn’t been as clear, but there are plenty of opportunities for the story. As the fifth season will focus on the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, that will take us to the end of the 1990s. From there, we are looking at the main events of the 2010s.
We’ll probably see how the 9/11 attacks affected things in Britain and then the Iraq war. The season will also have to deal with the deaths of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother, and we hope to see something about the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the end of the series.
Morgan has previously said the story won’t get to Harry and Meghan’s relationship. When it comes to Harry, we can see him going to rehab and joining the British Army and secretly going to fight in the Iraq War.
The crown is available to stream on Netflix.
