from netflix Strange things Season 4 took home some impressive awards at the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
The beloved series won the award for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, primarily due to the practical effects used to turn actor Jamie Campbell Bower into the villainous Vecna. Strange things beat out other nominees Angelyne, Gaslit, Impeachment: American Crime Story Y Picard from Star Trek. Netflix’s ’80s-inspired horror show also took home Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour), Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (one hour) and Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited Series or Anthology or Movie.
“Screaming so loud you can hear it up and down,” he wrote. Strange things’ official Twitter account. “Congratulations to our cast and crew on their 5 #Emmy Awards!!” The Television Academy also complimented the show, tweeting that Vecna would “come for that #Emmy”.
The creation of Vecna was a slow process, taking approximately six hours to complete. Barrie Gower, who served as one of the Heads of the Special Makeup Effects Department at Strange things Season 4 revealed the inspiration behind the villain’s design, noting that he got his job because of his work on game of Thrones. “With the fourth season, [the Duffer Brothers] they were looking for a great new iconic villain,” said Gower. King?'”
While Vecna’s physical appearance was achieved through practical special effects, an iconic component of the character was based entirely on Bower’s larynx. Many fans believed that the villain’s deep, gravelly voice was created through digital modulation, but the actor confirmed that he did it all himself. “I went home and worked on it and did a lot of reference work on how collector Y [actor] Doug Bradley, in particular,” Bower explained. “And he said that, you know, this deep, rumbling voice comes out of the darkness. And I was like ‘Yeah. You can say.’ I loved it, it was amazing.”
As for how Vecna will return for Strange things’ fifth and final season, Bower has noted that he will return and be more vicious than ever. “I don’t think he snuck off licking his wounds in misery,” Bower said. “He’s rebuilding himself and he’s thirsty for blood. It’s like you’re really pushing the buttons now, that classic Jason Voorhees.” [the killer in Friday the 13th] thing, you’ve made a big mistake.”
Strange things Seasons 1-4 are now streaming on Netflix.
