Spy Kids Director Announces Production Restart

spy kids Director Robert Rodriguez has officially wrapped filming on the upcoming Netflix-exclusive reboot movie.

Rodriguez announced that the spy kids reboot had wrapped production in a post on Twitter. Additionally, the director decided to mark the occasion by recreating a photo he took with his son, Racer Max Rodriguez, on the set in 2002. Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams. “I just wrapped a new spy kids by [Netflix]Working with my son Racer Max!” Rodriguez wrote. “First pic [sic] is from the set of spy kids 2 in 2002. Not much has changed, just now he’s co-writer, co-producer, and a little heavier.”

Spy Kids: The Road So Far

Written and directed by Rodríguez, the original spy kids released in theaters in 2001. The aforementioned Spy Kids 2 did the same in 2002. Rodríguez concluded his trilogy in 2003 with Spy Kids 3-D: Endgame. Nevertheless, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World – a legacy sequel of sorts – finally released in theaters in 2011. Spy Kids: Mission Criticalan animated series based on Rodriguez’s films, then ran for two seasons on Netflix in 2018.

In January 2021, it was announced that Rodríguez would return to writing and directing a spy kids restart the movie. In March 2022, the film was confirmed to be a Netflix original. In other words, the new spy kids will mark the latest entry in Rodriguez’s partnership with Netflix, following the 2020 film We can be heroeswhich is itself a spiritual successor to Rodriguez’s 2005 film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D.

According to weekly productionthe spy kids The reboot movie will be titled Spy Kids: Armageddonwhich was originally the planned title for All the time of the World. The reboot will star Gina Rodríguez (jane the virgin), Zachary Levi (Shazam! fury of the gods), Everly Cargonilla and Connor Esterson. “When the children of the world’s top secret agents unknowingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives them control of all technology, they must become spies to save their parents and the world” says the synopsis of the new film.


As mentioned above, Rodriguez is actually collaborating with his son, Racer Max Rodriguez, on the spy kids restart. Interestingly though, the father and son duo first collaborated when the latter was just seven years old. Racer Max received a story credit on the aforementioned Sharkboy and Lavagirlwith brothers Robert and Marcel Rodríguez having adapted the film’s script from Racer’s ideas.
