We talk about Big Smoke so much you’d almost think the city is all there is to WA, but there are plenty of other areas to put down roots…
The Southwest is a favorite destination for local and international visitors, and for several good reasons, including stunning beaches, magical forests, delicious gourmet produce, and of course, world-class wines.
Importantly, Busselton Airport also keeps you connected, especially if you’re a young FIFO family with around eight flights to and from the Pilbara every day, along with flights directly connecting the South West to Melbourne.
While most of us only get a taste of the Southwest during a long weekend or a colleague’s wedding celebrations, have you ever thought about making life in the South more permanent?
We’ve teamed up with the homebuilders at Summit South West to take a look at the lovely South West region and see where it might be right for you:
Relax and enjoy life at a slower pace with land at Dardanup. Build your dream home in the sprawling countryside, and even dabble in farming as a hobby with a few furry or feathered friends, and plenty of room for adventure.
Less than 10 minutes from beautiful Ferguson Valley, you’re surrounded by some of the best in the Southwest: whether you’re hitting the mountain biking trails in Wellington National Park or viewing the iconic Wellington Dam mural, passing a afternoon in the calm waters of Honeymoon Pool (pictured below), exploring the scenic trails of Crooked Brook, or checking off some of the twenty nearby wineries off your list! In the area, you will find more than a dozen primary and secondary schools that are a mix of public and private schools.
As if all that wasn’t enough, you’re also less than 15 minutes from the region’s top attraction: the Bunbury Farmers Market. Need we say more?

Dunsborough? More like Fun-sborough! The coastal city balances the best parts of the Southwest: an idyllic setting, surfing, fishing, and even better food and drink.
While the coastline is covered in spectacular beaches, Eagle Bay and Meelup Beach are two of the most stunning in WA. Line up almost anywhere along Cape Naturaliste to enjoy your dinner, or stop at one of the area’s next level restaurants including the iconic Blue Manna, Yarri, Occy’s, Bungalow Social or stop in for a drink and a snack at the chic Lady Lola cocktail bar. Dunsborough has over 100 restaurants and wineries, so you’ll definitely have your pick!
If you want to get out and explore, exquisite ancient caves like Ngilgi provide plenty of wonder for young and old alike; it was even WA’s first tourist attraction.

While a great destination for visitors to WA, Busselton has managed to retain all of its quaint charm. Its 1.8-kilometer-long jetty may be famous, but the town’s community is as close-knit as it gets.
And while you may associate Busso with a slower, more low-key way of life, it’s actually known as the event capital of WA! Locals enjoy a packed calendar of sporting, arts, and food and wine events throughout the year, from Ironman to CinefestOZ, Forrest Rally, or Fine Vines.
While you’ll feel like you’re a world away, Busselton is less than a three-hour drive from Perth, or a much shorter flight thanks to Busselton Airport.

We don’t need to convince you of the benefits of Margaret River, but let’s get lyrical anyway!
Absolutely stunning beaches as far as the eye can see, wineries, restaurants, and produce that are the envy of the world, spectacular surf, and forests that are as ancient as they are beautiful. What could not be loved?
