Round of 16 football action comes to Antrim

THE Antrim football scene enters the knockout stages this weekend with 10 games across three grades.

ANTRIM SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS

LAMH DHEARG V CHARGER
Friday, Dunsilly, 7:30 p.m.
Cargin will be hoping to reclaim his crown having won five of the last seven championships but lost on the final day to O’Donovan Rossa so his form may be a concern. They are the favourites, but Lamh Dhearg could spring an upset.

PORTGLENONE VS GORT NA MONA
Saturday, Dunsilly, 5 p.m.
Portglenone has been knocking on the championship door for a while now and they will finally break it. They won’t do everything their way, but they should have enough to get the job done.
Verdict: Portglenone

AGHAGALLON V NAOMH BRIDGE
Sunday, Lamh Dhearg, 1:00 p.m.
Aghagallon was the surprise package in the championship last year and Audi Kelly’s men will try to go one step further this season. On Sunday they will take a step towards that and reach the quarterfinals.
Verdict: Agagallón

O’DONOVAN ROSSA VS CREGGAN
Sunday, St Enda’s, 3.30pm.
O’Donovan Rossa will be very confident from his recent win over Cargin in the group stage, but will be up against defending champions who are keen to defend their title.
Verdict: Creggan

ANTRIM FOOTBALL INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS

SARSFIELDS VS SAN PABLO
Saturday, Sarsfields, 3pm
Sarsfields topped their group with three wins from three but finished behind St Paul’s in the league. This one could go all the way, but Padraig Sairseil will feel that he can get a result.
Verdict: Padraig Sairseil

GLENAVY V DAVITT’S
Saturday, San José, 3:00 p.m.
Glenavy is one of three teams currently undefeated in the Intermediate Championship, and they hope to continue that streak this weekend and make it to the last four.
Verdict: Glenavy

ALDERGROVE VS. DUNLOY
Sunday, Aldergrove, 2pm
Aldergrove lost to St Paul’s in the final round of the group stage, but were still able to finish top of group four. Dunloy offers a great scoring threat and that could carry them into the next round.

GLENRAVEL V ALL SAINTS
Sunday, St James’, 2pm
All Saint’s were a big winner of 31 points in their last run in the championship but expect a much tougher test this weekend. With Magee’s he is currently undefeated and will carry the favorites tag this weekend.

ANTRIM JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS

NA PIARSAIGH VS ST AGNES’
Saturday, St Enda’s, 3pm
St Agnes’ were a big winner over Ballycastle in the last round and the scoring threat from Ronan Carroll, who went 4-2 in that game, should be enough to see them get past Na Piarsaigh and into the last four.
Verdict: Saint Agnes

LAOCHRA LOCH LAO V EIRE OG
Saturday, Colaiste Feirste, 3:00 p.m.
Eire Og won nine points over Wolfe Tones two weeks ago, while Laochra Loch Lao lost to St Malachy’s by a slim margin. That momentum might be enough for Eire Og to slip away.
