Hulu is releasing an original movie that’s a new twist on the classic.”romeo juliet” story, essentially doing a modern romantic comedy. It is based on the novel when you were mine by Rebecca Serle. Here is the official plot synopsis:
“Rosaline is a fresh and comedic twist on the classic Shakespearean love story “Romeo and Juliet,” told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Kaitlyn Dever), who also happens to be Romeo’s recent love interest. Heartbroken when Romeo (Kyle Allen) meets Julieta (Isabela Merced) and starts pursuing her, Rosaline plans to thwart the famous romance and win the boy back from her.
Our take on the premise
The movie doesn’t seem like something I’d watch, because it seems a bit repetitive of the classic formula and because it’s probably not aimed at my demographic. At this point, many years later, if you’re going to adapt Shakespeare into a new format, do something fresh and new like The Lion King.
