Netflix live action avatar the last airbender is nearing its release and so are the first reports from the set of the upcoming adaptation. More recently, reports have surfaced suggesting that at least one main character will appear in a costume straight from the animated series.
According to Avatar News, which was unable to share photos sent to the outlet, photos from the set revealed that the show will present viewers with a shrine for Avatar Kuruk in the Northern Water Tribe. Thanks to the presence of a statue of the Water Tribe avatar, the public was given a detailed description of what it will look like. It was described as nearly identical to Kuruk’s appearance in avatar the last airbender Y the legend of korracomplete with a winter parka, a polar bear fur headdress and a spear.
In the Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar Kuruk was briefly alluded to in Book 1, when Avatar Aang encountered Koh the Face-Stealer in the Spirit World. Kuruk made a full appearance in Book 3 when he told Aang about the moment he defined his time as the Avatar. But while The last Airbender provided Avatar of the Water Tribe with only a minor role in its three seasons, rumors arose early on that the Netflix series would give it a larger role.
A casting call was held in April for someone to play the role of a “legendary warrior from the past”. The character description resembled many of the key details from Avatar Kuruk. Notably, the casting call also specified that the character will appear in at least two episodes. It was later reported that actor Meegwun Fairbrother will play Avatar, but it is unknown how many episodes he will appear in and how his role will compare to his animated counterpart.
Filming for Netflix avatar the last airbender completed filming in June. The main cast includes Gordon Cormier as Avatar Aang, Dallas Liu as Zuko, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Nation ruler Fire Lord Ozai.
