Phoenix Pizza Chef Chris Bianco Stars in ‘Chef’sTable’ on Netflix This September

Chris White, Pizzaiolo extraordinaire who put Phoenix on the wood-fired pie map is coming soon to Netflix Chef’s Table: Pizza.

The James Beard Award winner will be the focus of the first of six episodes this season of chef’s tablea documentary-style series that dedicates an entire show to each chef.

In a trailer for the Emmy-nominated series, which premieres on Netflix on September 7, an opening shot of pizza boxes transitions to the chef in his kitchen at Pizzeria Bianco Town & Country at 20th Street and Camelback Road. Another shot shows Bianco putting the finishing touches on some dough, then sliding one of his legendary pies into a brown brick-lined wood-fired oven at the original Heritage Square restaurant in downtown Phoenix, which opened in nineteen ninety six.

“You’re going to see pizza differently after hanging out with Chris Bianco. Chris is the Coltrane of pizza; this guy remade the game,” explains the narrator.

The show, which premiered in 2015, has featured a variety of culinary artisans from around the world, from pastry chefs in Manhattan and Sicily to cutting-edge women breaking expectations in a male-dominated industry. chef’s table He also dedicates entire seasons to French cuisine and barbecue.

This season dominated by pizza follows a similar format, showcasing inspiring and intrepid chefs from Italy, Japan, Minneapolis and, of course, Phoenix.

Bianco first put Phoenix on the pizza map in 1988, baking pies in a tiny corner of Euro Market, now an AJ’s Fine Foods inside the Uptown Plaza at Central Avenue and Camelback Road. But the poetic chef’s empire, like his dough, has risen from humble beginnings.

Laid-back lunch spot Pane Bianco offers focaccia sandwiches, pizza slices and salads, while Tratto offers handmade pastas and antipasti with 24-month-old Prosciutto di Parma.

The chef won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurateur in June, the second of what many have considered the “Oscars of Food” since he won Best Chef Southwest in 2003.

Pizzeria Bianco in downtown Los Angeles debuted just days after winning the award in June, with New York-style slices and 18-inch pies to whet your West Coast appetite. The Los Angeles restaurant now also serves dinner, with small plates, salads, pizza and a variety of house-made sorbets.

An August 31 Instagram post from the Pizzeria Bianco Los Angeles account excitedly announced the upcoming show and shared the Chef’s Table: Pizza trailer that portrays Bianco and her passion.

“September 7th!” the post says. “You may have heard that something delicious is coming.”
