Netflix thriller among the top 10 movies in 55 countries in its first week

Netflix’s first Danish-language film, caring adultsIt just debuted on the streamer and, based on early data, seems to have swept it from the start.

The film, which today ranks #3 on Netflix in the US, also #1 non-English Netflix movie all over the world right now. That’s based on Netflix’s latest Global Top 10 figures, which show that caring adults (from director Barbara Rothenborg) garnered 17.4 million hours of viewing time worldwide during the 7-day period ending August 28.

And here’s the even more impressive part: In its first week of release? The film, about a married couple who seem to have it all, until a betrayal of sorts, made the streamer’s top 10 movies list in a whopping 55 countries during its first week of release.

In the center of caring adults story are the characters of Christian (Dar Salim) and Leonora (Sonja Richter). They have a son and seemingly the perfect life together. Also, your son has just received a clean bill of health after battling a long illness. In other words, everyone’s future looks promising.

That is, until Leonora sees her husband in the company of a younger woman. She is an architect named Xenia, and Christian is with her at a party organized by her company. The movie starts to feel like one of the older stories in the book. Except, that is, for Leonara making a decision on the spot. The woman who gave up her career for love decides that she is not going to be the woman who gets left behind.

“Me, caring adults is a dark and twisted, exciting yet sexy film about the terrible things men and women can end up doing to each other, if taken too far,” says Rothenborg in Netflix’s press material for the film. “It’s about the fine line between love and hate, and how jealousy and bitterness can bring out the worst in all of us.”

Ratings and reaction

caring adults it currently has a 64% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of this writing. “Caring Adults in Netflix it’s literally the best fucking movie i’ve seen in a long timeme,” a Twitter user raved. “MEIt was released yesterday, go check it out.” added another: “Someone has seen Caring Adults in Netflix? TOTALLY DISCONNECTED. 12/10 would recommend it.”

The film, it should be added, is based on the novel Kærlighed for Voksne by Anna Eckberg.
