#TBRTrending is used as a way to promote the books you want to add to your TBR. With the passing of Loretta Lynn, it would be only right to introduce a book written by her.
For the most part, #TBRTrending has been about highlighting books with fewer than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads or books that don’t get enough attention. However, as the latest in September shows, there are some exceptions.
In this case, though with the passing of Loretta Lynn, I knew I had to submit a book about her or written by her. That’s why Me and Patsy Kicking Up the Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline by Loretta Lynn and Patsy Lynn Russell was an easy choice for me.
Whether you’re a fan of country music or not, Me and Patsy Kicking Up the Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline is a book for all music lovers and gives you an insight into what the world was like before many of us were born.
This week’s #TBRTrending is an ode to Loretta Lynn in the midst of her recent passing.
While Loretta Lynn has written a few books in her life, I thought it would be only right to feature a recent release from her. As you may have guessed from the title, Me and Patsy Kicking Up the Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline tell not only the life story of Loretta Lynn, but also the details of her friendship with Patsy Cline.
If you don’t know much about Loretta Lynn, this is a good place to start. The beginning of the book gives us a glimpse into Loretta’s life before fame and before Patsy. It eventually details meeting her and her rise to fame along with her friendship. Honestly, Patsy sounds like the best friend anyone could have had.
In many ways, the book is a love letter to Patsy Cline. It’s clear that Loretta Lynn really loved Patsy and Patsy loved her. The stories Loretta shared were sometimes hilarious but heartbreaking as we all know how Patsy Cline’s story ended. Regardless, it makes hearing all the stories all the sweeter as we never get to see behind the curtain on such a beloved country artist.
It was especially heartbreaking when the book addressed Loretta’s grief in the midst of Patsy’s death and eventually her husband’s. At least we have a silver lining in that we know that Loretta and Patsy are now reunited. Regardless, if she’s looking to learn more about two of country music’s most badass ladies, then this book should be in her TBR for October.
Personally, I feel that this book is best enjoyed through an audio book. While the ebook or physical book is fine, the book was narrated by Patsy Lynn Russell, who does a fabulous job. Considering that both superstars are gone, it’s a good way to remember them or learn more about their lives, something many of us tend to do.
Anyway, Me and Patsy Kicking Up the Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline I wanted to have a conversation with an old friend and just listen to their stories about someone they loved and admired. If you have an interest in learning more about Loretta Lynn or just want an enjoyable audio read then you should add this book to your TBR.
