Meet the team behind IAAPA Expo Europe

Planet Attractions recently traveled to meet with the team behind IAAPA Expo Europe, the EMEA region’s largest trade show for the attractions industry. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s show.

The largest attraction show in the EMEA region is scheduled to touch down in London, UK on September 12, with IAAPA Expo Europe seeing thousands of professionals gather at the ExCeL Center to learn about what’s new and trending as they explore the vast trade show floor and enjoy a number of networking opportunities with industry peers.

The show is a gigantic undertaking each year and in its role as a key media partner for the event, planet attractions traveled to meet the team behind the show, to see how it all comes together.

Starting with planning and operations, Janet Doyle is Director of Trade Show Operations, ensuring the show runs smoothly and according to plan.

“We’re almost full,” Doyle said. “We have more than 500 confirmed and reserved exhibitors in the room. It’s going to be a great show and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to London.”

Also on the planning side is Katia Malnati, Meetings and Events Manager. Her role includes managing special events that take place during the show, making sure everyone ends up where they need to be.

“Key events include the opening reception, which takes place at the Museum in London Docklands,” said Malnati. “We will also have some events at Chessington World of Adventures. We also have a Young Professionals Forum at ExCel. There are various events with many different places to visit and see.”

Show sales are handled by Annadora Buonocore and Iuliana Fornea, who help exhibitors in case they need anything before the show and help them reserve their space for future events.

“We believe that building a long-term relationship is critical to our work and to our exhibitors from the moment we assign them a booth,” said Buonocore. “The important thing is that they know that they can count on us for any questions they may have and that they can receive quick and accurate answers and information from us.”

Offering some tips for maximizing a show experience for exhibitors, Fornea advised being proactive and engaging with customers early.

“That could be posting ads on social media, engaging with your customers there, and scheduling customer appointments on show days,” he explained. “We also recommend reviewing the visitor lists on our websites, so they can see potential clients to schedule meetings with.”

Tom van Lieffering leads IAAPA education, bringing together the engaging content that so many learn from at every IAAPA show.

“As a society, we have all been through this very difficult pandemic,” he said. “Now we are facing a different world, a complex world, a multi-layered world with many challenges.

“With our educational content, we look to see how we can explore these challenges and give context to our members. On the other hand, we also seek to show the potential it has, the opportunities and the agility, how the business has changed and how things will continue to change”.

In between this year’s educational sessions, Planet Attractions Editor-in-Chief Tom Anstey will join some of the UK’s leading content creators on stage for a special panel session.

The panel discussion, to be held on September 15, titled ‘How to Make Friends and Influence People: Working with Influencers’ will explore how those who work on the consumer side of the attractions industry can work with your fan base in a constructive way. helping them create content and experiences that will ultimately benefit all parties.

“I consider it an honor that the theme park community at large and people who influence our industry and have a voice in this industry are willing to work with us to showcase their story during a session,” said van Lieffering.
