Meet the power couple fighting to make South Florida more stylish on Netflix’s ‘Designing Miami’

The stars of the latest Netflix reality showDesigning Miami (premiere September 21), don’t let your marriage get in the way of healthy competition.

“In the business world of interior design, I want to win,” admits Ray Jimenez in the show’s trailer, above, premiered exclusively with PEOPLE. “Eilyn, she’s my competitor, I want to tear her apart,” he adds before revealing that her rival is also her wife.

Ray and Eilyn run their own interior design companies and often fight over business. “You will never compete with me,” Ray challenges in the clip.

While his wife coldly replies, “Oh, honey, I do.”

PEOPLE spoke to the stars of the new eight-episode reality series, which takes a bit of DNA from two other hit Netflix shows: Dream house makeoveraspirational design and selling sunsets big drama: about balancing her private life and her work life in front of the cameras.


They both confess that Ray is better at separating the two. “I have to do it for my mental sanity and mental health,” she says.

But Eilyn is confident in handling it all. “I’m a Virgo and I’m a multitasker, so I can do a million things at the same time,” she says. “At the end of the day, we care about our relationship. He’s my best friend, so nurturing him is really important to us.”

“Our careers are who we are, but at the core, it’s just me and him, so we do whatever it takes to stay connected,” he adds.

Ray’s motto to keep their bond strong: “Happy wife, happy life.”

Its unique relationship dynamic isn’t the only thing that sets the series apart from the homey reindeer pack. The duo tell PEOPLE they hope to “add some light to the creative side of what an interior designer does” by showing the ins and outs of the work.

“I really want viewers to see what it’s like to be able to work really hard for something and get it in the end,” Eilyn says.

Adds Ray, “Some projects are going to go really well and some are going to be all over the place and I’m excited for the world to see that process.”

The “young Latino power couple,” as Eilyn calls them, keep a sense of humor as they butt heads, managing wealthy clients, a team of designers and their families, some of whom are also their contractors.

While growing their businesses, the couple is also building their dream home from scratch. As seen in the trailer, tensions reach a breaking point when Ray calls out his wife for not getting more involved in the process.

“It’s not my fault, I have 14 projects and you have 5”, he shouts.

“We agree on everything when it comes to design,” says Ray before bursting out laughing.

His wife’s response: “Let me know when you’re done.”
