COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State football brought out the stars for their season-opening game against Notre Dame, with LeBron James topping their guest list.
The four-time MVP and current Los Angles Laker was joined by his son Bronny, who is a four-star recruit in the 2023 draft class, ranked the 41st player in the nation and the 10th combined guard.
James has long been a noted Buckeyes fan and even sponsors the basketball program. But he hasn’t been to a game since leading some of his then-Cavaliers teammates to a double-overtime victory over Michigan in 2016. That was the last time OSU had such a high-profile recruiting weekend as which is happening this season, and both the football and basketball programs are taking advantage of it.
Wide receivers coach Brian Hartline used James’ assist as an opportunity to introduce wide receivers Brandon Inniss, Noah Rogers and Bryson Rodgers to the four-time MVP during pregame.
Most of the recruiting classes of 2023 in both sports will attend along with numerous targets. In addition, numerous former players are also expected to be in the stands. For the football team, this weekend is about showing recruits what the atmosphere is like when Ohio State plays a big game. The basketball class is nearly full, but I’d love to add one more intriguing prospect whose profile is as valuable, if not more, than his game.
Potentially adding Bronny would give the Buckeyes 2023 class five commitments worth 66.76 points, pushing the group from fifth to third nationally behind Duke and Michigan State. He would join Scotty Middleton as a national commitment, though Bronny is originally from Ohio despite playing at Sierra Canyon in California.
James and his son were just two of a plethora of household names in the building. NBA players Evan Turner (ex-Buckeye), Andre Iguodala and Jayson Tatum were also in the game, while the list of former OSU football players was also long. Some of those names include Orlando Pace, Ezekiel Elliott, Chase Young, Justin Fields, Jeff Okudah, Dre’Mont Jones, Baron Browning, Terry McClaurin, Curtis Samuel, Sam Hubbard and former Buckeye quarterback turned LSU Joe Burrow. .
