NEW DELHI: Kavita Chawla, a housewife from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, became the first ‘crorepati’ in the quiz-based reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 14’ hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.
The 45-year-old spoke about how she was able to complete her education, even though her father was not prepared to educate her after Class X. She was able to pass Class XII before marriage only because her teacher stepped in and reasoned with her father.
Speaking about how he prepared for the show, Chawla said, “I used to homeschool my son Vivek and taught him from KG to Class VIII. I used to prepare for the show because I always dreamed of going to ‘KBC ‘ from the moment it started.
She continued, “When I used to teach him, I also studied and knew that the knowledge would help me in the future. Whenever I had a free time from my housework, I studied to keep up to date with current affairs.” issues and brush up on my general knowledge.
Kavita added that preparing for the show was not easy. “For a housewife, studies feel like multitasking, and on top of that, I had a son and in-laws to take care of,” Chawla said, adding, “Taking on those responsibilities and also studying made me understand time management. I did not want to waste time going out, for example.
It took him 21 years and 10 months to finally get on the bench and fulfill his dream. On many occasions, in fact, his son joked with him, claiming that a call had come from the creators of the reality show.
“The journey from the records to the hot seat is not that easy and it’s tediously long,” Chawla said. “Sometimes when I checked in, I didn’t get the call. Then when I got the call, I didn’t get the call for the procedures that follow. If I got the call for an audition, I didn’t get the call for the interview. It took me a while to get there.” to the bench because I was advancing step by step and it took me a long time to get here,” he exclaimed.
Speaking of meeting Amitabh Bachchan, Chawla said: “It was surreal. I was mesmerized by the lord. The most beautiful part of meeting him was the conversations we had and the most glorious part of meeting him was the moment he announced my name to the hotseat and when I earned Rs 1 crore”.
Chawla plans to invest the money she has earned “in my son’s future because I want him to continue studying. I want my son to study and grow up and make the country proud.” As for her, he said, “I want to travel around India and experience the beauty of it.”
