Things are getting spooky on Twitter, where Netflix recently released a new photo for their upcoming series, Wednesday. Giving fans a countdown update until the Addams Family kid gets his own version of him, the streamer cheekily wrote “7 more Wednesdays until Wednesday,” teasing the show’s November 23 launch. While it may be after the official Halloween season, I’m sure those who like to keep tricks and treats going until Thanksgiving will be happy to mark the end of the holidays with this one.
In the image, we see the titular teenager, played by Jenna Ortega, with his basic grimace and his dead eyes staring at the camera. With her long tresses and her flower-dotted black outfit, Wednesday seems less than pleased with her surroundings. Flanking her daughter on either side are Gomez (luis guzman) and Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Contrary to his son’s seriously deadly stare, Gomez and Morticia are all smiles as can be, with Gomez looking lovingly at his wife, something the character is known to do.
Directed by Tim Burton, the black comedy will continue on Wednesday as she embarks on Nevermore Academy, the school responsible for sparking the romance between Morticia and Gomez many years ago. It is here that the teenager will hone her psychic leanings as she deals with the typical problems of adolescence. But it’s not all spiders and dead roses, as her time in academia will take her on a journey to solve a mystery that has been following her family for generations.
With a call sheet full of familiar names, Ortega, Zeta-Jones and Guzmán will join Isaac Ordonez as the son of the family and Wednesday’s torture subject, Pugsley, gwendoline christie as Nevermore director Larissa Weems, Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott, jamie mcshane like Sheriff Donovan Galpin, Jorge Burcea like lurk, Victor Dorobantu as a thing, and sunday of joy as Wednesday’s school rival, Bianca Barclay. Back by popular demand in an undisclosed role will be Cristina Ricci who played the role of Wednesday in Burton’s early ’90s feature films, the addams family Y The Addams Family Values.
Through various clips, images and interviews, potential audiences have been able to see for the first time how the next production will unfold. While, like all things in the addams family universe, the series will be dark, but with comic relief hidden around every corner. If you’re a longtime fan of the franchise, the creators of the series Alfred Gough Y miles thousand they have promised to stay true to the story, hiding several Easter Eggs in plain sight for viewers to catch during the series run.
Wednesday Premiere on Netflix on November 23.
