HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s the only thing being talked about today.
A viral video from a Hamilton daycare center has devastated parents and horrified the community.
A cell phone video posted to various social media accounts shows adult daycare workers scaring young children.
The adult is wearing a mask from the movie Scream. You can hear and see the children screaming and crying.
WCBI is not airing the disturbing video due to the minor children involved, but we must warn you that the following story may be distressing to some of our viewers.
Tonight, multiple agencies are investigating.
The videos showed children being chased by what they saw as a terrifying monster.
Instead, it was her nursery worker. The person who was supposed to keep them safe at the Lil’ Blessings Nursery and Learning Center.
Now parents are keeping their children at home after the viral video spread on Facebook like wildfire.
“We thought we knew these people, we are from here. I can’t put into words how I feel. I am devastated for my baby,” said Alissa Hays, the mother of one of the children in the video.
Keegan and Alissa Hays watched their daughter’s video after another parent sent them the video to show what was going on at the facility.
Alissa Hays’ husband was one of the first parents to welcome their son after the video began circulating in the small Monroe County community.
“For this to happen was really shocking as well as very angry. When something like this happens to your child, many thoughts go through your head”, Keegan Hays.
When Keegan Hays demanded answers, he said some of the workers didn’t seem to take the matter seriously.
We spoke with the director of the nursery who refused to do an interview on camera. The nursery issued a statement on social media saying that “the director was not aware of this happening, but when it was made public, the situation was resolved and people were fired. The director notified MSDH.”
Now some parents want to take legal action.
At this time, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has not filed charges against anyone at the daycare in the investigation, but Sheriff Kevin Crook urges patience.
“I understand that people want retaliation or retribution or whatever they want. justice is really what they want. Not to do anything unreasonable and take matters into your own hands and go after some of these kids or whatever they know is involved or the business owner that’s going to get them in trouble,” Crook said.
The big question is, will parents send them back if they reopen?
“Under different circumstances, full oversight, better management, we would possibly consider just the convenience of being here in Hamilton,” Keegan Hays said.
A spokesperson for the Mississippi State Department of Health says the matter is under investigation.
