Netflix India VP (Content) Monika Shergill said that five Indian titles have appeared on Netflix’s global top 10 lists so far this year. Viewership for Indian movies on the streaming service has increased by 50 percent since last year, ‘Variety’ reports.

The service’s hits include Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, the pan-Indian box office hit ‘RRR’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, starring Kartik Aaryan and Tabu.

Shergill also noted in an interview with ‘Variety’, to coincide with the streamer’s Movie Day on Monday, that Indian movies appeared on Netflix’s non-English language charts for 31 of the last 34 weeks.

Another successful Alia film has been ‘Darlings’, the story of which revolves around domestic abuse, which opened as the service’s highest opening non-English language original film worldwide. The film, co-produced by Alia with Red Chillies Entertainment, also features powerful performances from Shefali Shah and Vijay Verma.
