The unexpected but surprisingly entertaining prequel Orphan: first kill (read our review HERE) is now available to watch on the Paramount Plus streaming service, and it’s coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 18yes (Amazon is already accepting pre-orders at THIS LINK). To promote the fact that the movie is streaming, Paramount Plus has shared a behind-the-scenes article on Twitter, and you can check it out in the embed below.
The report not only includes interviews with producer Alex Mace (who first came up with the story Orphanand helped create the story for this prequel), director William Brent Bell, and cast members Isabelle Fuhrman, Julia Stiles, and Matthew Finlan, but also shows some of the tricks that were used to allow Fuhrman to play a character that was looks like she is still a girl.
Isabelle Fuhrman reprises the role of Leena Klammer / Esther, an Estonian adult serial killer who was able to pass herself off as a 9-year-old girl in the first Orphan. Looking like 9 was easy for Fuhrman at the time because she was a kid when he made that movie…but she’s an adult now, and the filmmakers had to figure out how to make her look like a kid again. In addition to the actors mentioned above, Rossif Sutherland and Hiro Kanagawa join the cast of Fuhrman.
Directed by Bell from a screenplay by David Coggeshall, Orphan: first kill has the following synopsis:
Esther’s terrifying saga continues in this thrilling prequel to the original smash horror hit, Orphan. After orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Esther travels to America posing as the missing daughter of a wealthy family. However, an unexpected twist brings her face to face with a mother who will protect her family from the murderous “boy” at all costs.
Co-financed by eOne and Dark Castle, Orphan: first kill it was produced by James Tomlinson, with Alex Mace, Hal Sadoff and Ethan Erwin of Dark Castle Entertainment. Original Orphan screenwriter David Leslie Johnson served as executive producer alongside Daryl Katz, Chloe Katz, Paul Marcaccio, Victor Moyers and Kyle Irving.
