Spain is a popular filming location for Bollywood movies, but have you ever considered a trip to Spain to experience the local culture and visit some of the locations of Bollywood classics? Spain has been the setting for numerous Indian movies, which has led to an increase in Indian tourists traveling to Spain.
The importance of the Indian tourism market has become significant with the number of Indians traveling abroad since the year 2000 when only 4.42 million people from India traveled internationally. This number increased to almost 27 million in 2019. The opportunity to visit Bollywood filming locations in person gives fans of Indian cinema an added incentive to visit Spain.
A variety of Bollywood scenes
In the Andalucía region, tourists have a variety of options with Granada, Córdoba and Cádiz being some of the jewels of southern Spain. But for Bollywood fans, it is Malaga, known as the capital of the Costa del Sol, that has everything you need for the perfect getaway. This Andalucian city boasts 16 beaches along the Mediterranean, and for culture lovers there are a number of fascinating museums, including one dedicated to Malaga’s most famous son, Pablo Picasso. As you walk through the historic center of the city of Malaga, you will find yourself in the middle of a Bollywood movie set. You can also tour the port area, an important sector of the city, along with the Plaza del Obispo, a baroque square on the list of must-sees on a trip to this city.
From Malaga, visitors can travel to Seville, another popular location for Bollywood movies. The trip is comfortable, without changes and takes less than 2 hours on high-speed trains. If you prefer a quieter and cheaper trip, you can opt for the second option that takes you to Seville in approximately three hours. With train ticket prices so affordable, it makes a lot of sense to visit another historic city while visiting the region.
Provide the perfect Bollywood setting
Seville is known as the Pearl of Andalusia, and it is easy to see why. Tourist attractions abound such as the Moorish royal palace known as the Real Alcázar de Sevilla, the Gothic Seville Cathedral and La Giralda, the former minaret of the Great Mosque of Seville. The city was also used as one of the locations for the road drama, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, starring Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol. She re-enacts history by attending a flamenco show, though only the brave would copy her skydiving antics! A trip to the city gives Bollywood fans a chance to reminisce about a time when mainstream Hindi cinema wasn’t coming under such harsh criticism in India and beyond.
Before you go, you should know that this Andalusian city is also known as the frying pan of Spain. So we recommend that you avoid visiting Seville in August!
A trip to southern Spain offers visitors the chance to experience historic Andalusian cities like Malaga and Seville while combining culture with the opportunity to experience actual Bollywood filming locations. It’s easy to see why Spain saw an influx of Indian visitors eager to experience what they’ve seen on the big screen in real life.
