Defense, technological cooperation and maritime security dominate the talks between India and the US.

India and the US met this week to promote cooperation on a variety of bilateral issues. The Indian delegation to the talks was led by Ms. Vani Rao, Additional Secretary (Americas) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the US delegation was led by Mr. Donald Lu, Under Secretary of State (Central Asian and South) and Dr. Ely Ratner, Assistant Secretary of Defense (Indo-Pacific Security Affairs).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides discussed “discussed developments in the global maritime domain, bilateral maritime cooperation efforts, regional support initiatives, and collaborative efforts such as the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness.” “.

India and the United States also continued to strengthen their value-based partnership. Both sides “affirmed their shared desire to enhance international maritime security and strengthen cooperation towards a free, open and inclusive maritime order that supports security, inclusive growth and prosperity,” reads the press release detailing the meeting.

The discussion also touched on regional issues with the discussion of events in South Asia, the Indo-Pacific and the Indian Ocean region.

Taking stock of the current state of the defense relationship, India and the US also “discussed ways to further strengthen the Greater Defense Partnership, including in new and emerging areas in the defense domain, such as space, AI and cybernetics”.

New Delhi and Washington closed the meeting by agreeing to “remain committed to the goal of further enhancing the depth and substance of the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
