Another for your ever-longing Halloween watch list: Blumhouse’s feminist horror thriller run darling run Coming to Amazon’s Prime Video service on October 28.

run darling run is the latest film from director Shana Feste (The biggest, limits) and stars demonic residentIt’s Ella Balinska as a young mother on a date from hell.

The official synopsis of run darling run read:

Initially concerned when her boss insists she meet with one of his biggest clients, single mom Cherie (Ella Balinska) is relieved and thrilled when she meets the charismatic Ethan (Pilou Asbæk). The influential businessman defies expectations and surprises Cherie. But at the end of the night, when the two of them are alone, she reveals her true violent nature. Battered and terrified, she flees for her life, beginning a relentless game of cat and mouse with a bloodthirsty assailant hell-bent on destroying her utterly. In this dark, edge-of-your-seat thriller, Cherie finds herself in the crosshairs of a conspiracy stranger and more evil than she ever could have imagined.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feste revealed that run darling run was inspired by a terrifying real-life encounter she had on a date with a man in his 20s.

“That night was terrifying and enlightening,” she says. “People I didn’t think were going to help me helped me, and people I thought were going to help me really didn’t help me as much as they could have. It was almost, what happened on foot, going back to my house, worse than what happened on the date.

Since its premiere at Sundance 2020, run darling run has been earning positive praise for its feminist message. Our friends at Nightmarish Conjurings described the horror thriller as a “A multi-layered and highly personal portrait of a woman in peril and a bold feminist statement of the lot of women in life and the inherent danger of being a woman that is too often overlooked by society.”

Along with Balinska, run darling run also starring Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog)Pilou Asbaek (game of Thrones), Clark Gregg (captain marvel), Dayo Okeniyi (New) and Betsy Brandt (breaking bad). Alongside Feste, the film was co-written by Keith Josef Adkins and Kellee Terrell.
