Bridgeforth Stadium set to host the first ever FBS competition


HARRISONBURG, Va. – With the first FBS foe visiting Bridgeforth Stadium this Saturday when James Madison Football hosts Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m., JMU Athletics reminds fans of several important stadium policies and procedures to maximize the game day experience for everyone.

JMU Football Game Day Information

Parking, tailgates, shuttles and pre-game activities (parking information and map)

  • Parking Lots: Open at 8 am and close two hours after the game.
  • Tailgating: Allowed in reserved lots at 8am and in general lots four hours before kickoff.
  • General Lots: All reserved parking is sold out for the 2022 season. General parking is available at Ballard Deck, Warsaw Deck, Grace St Deck, D3 Lot, and C12 Lot (both on East Campus).
  • RV Parking: Available in the R10 parking lot on Port Republic Rd, accessible via Hunters Road, at a cost of $150 per season or $35 per game.
  • Transportation Services: Several free transportation services are offered to patrons, including from East Campus (Ballard Deck/Festival) and general Convo lots. Transfers to many hotel locations are also offered.
  • ADA Parking: Available in Lot R8 with shuttle service available directly to Gates A and C/D beginning two hours prior to start.
  • Student Tailgate – A student tailgate area is available in lot R1 adjacent to the village dorms. Tailgating opens four hours before kickoff. Drivers must present a valid JACard and the driver and all passengers must have a game ticket.
  • Fan Zone – An interactive fan zone featuring games, children’s activities and more is available to all guests on the Godwin Hall Courtyard beginning 2.5 hours prior to kickoff and ending 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
  • Dog Delivery: Greet the JMU football team as they are transported by buses to the entrance of the Plecker Athletic Performance Center two hours and 30 minutes before kickoff.

  • Doors Open: All doors open 90 minutes before kickoff. Doors A through E are open to all guests and doors C and D are preferred for student entrance. Gate H (adjacent to Gate A) offers ADA entry.
  • Get there early: Traditionally, the opening game always sees a late push at the stadium gates. All fans are encouraged to arrive at the stadium early for faster entry.
  • Metal Detectors: All guests must enter through metal detectors. Wallets, cell phones and keys do NOT need to be removed for entry.
  • Clear Bag: Allowable bags include: clear bags with a handle no larger than 12″ by 12″ by 6″, one gallon-size clear plastic zipper bag, and one handbag or wallet no larger than 4.5″ by 6.5 “. -necessary bags and diaper bags, if accompanied by a small child. Both exceptions are subject to bag check.

  • Tickets On Sale: Tickets for the Middle Tennessee opener are still available at Season tickets and single-game tickets for the remaining five games are also available.
  • Digital Ticketing: JMU utilizes digital ticketing via personal mobile devices for all stadium tickets. More information is available at
  • Ticket Office Hours: Gate A main ticket office opens four hours prior to kick-off. Booths at Gates B, C, and D open two hours before kickoff.
  • Student Ticketing and Seating: JMU students receive free tickets to all sporting events, but soccer tickets must be reserved in advance with digital tickets to enter.   • Stubhub Ticket Market: Fans can also buy and sell tickets at the official secondary ticket market on Stubhub.

Sale of Alcohol (More Details)

  • Wristbands: NEW for 2022, there are no longer separate wristband stations. All wristbands are obtained at places where alcohol is sold. Guests can also obtain a wristband prior to stadium entry at the Plecker Athletics Performance Center Courtyard Guest Services Tent.
  • Drink Limits: Guests may purchase two drinks per transaction with a maximum of four per event.
  • Sale Duration: Alcohol sales begin when doors open and end at the end of the third quarter.

  • GuestAssist – Fans have direct access to report concerns by texting “DUKES” followed by a space and the issue is reported to 78247. A game day hotline is also available at 540-568-3421 for access phone to report problems.
  • Marching Royal Dukes – College football’s best band hits the field at Zane Showker Field before the game about 20 minutes before kickoff, halftime, and postgame performances. The band also warms up on the JMU quad before the game.
  • Streamers: Guests can bring streamers to the venue. Streamers may not be thrown onto the field, directly at game players or opposing fans.
  • SOCOM Para-Commandos: The ball for the first FBS game at Bridgeforth Stadium against Middle Tennessee will be delivered approximately 30 minutes before kickoff by SOCOM Para-Commandos.
  • Fireworks/Cannon: JMU uses fireworks and a single cannon shot as part of pre-game ceremonies to welcome the JMU football team to the field. Cannon shots also occur at the end of a quarter or after a JMU score.
  • Promotional Giveaways: Promotional items for the Middle Tennessee game include banners, the official team poster, and Sun Belt koozies. The full season promotional schedule is available at
  • SunChase Freshman Charge: A tradition during the JMU season opener, select freshmen will take the field before the JMU football team kicks off, five minutes before kickoff.
  • Bookstore: The JMU Bookstore is open near the G Lot, Godwin Hall, and Godwin Transportation Center on game days. A satellite location is also operated within the stadium near Gate A.
