High schools greeted Thursday night football games with a trifecta of lopsided scores as Reno and Bishop Manogue achieved 5A and Truckee 3A.
Manogue outscored Carson, 77-28, to improve to 5-0 in the league, 6-2 overall; Reno outscored Galena 48-7, to improve to 2-2 in the league, 4-3 overall; and Truckee defeated Wooster, 47-12 to improve to 3-0, 6-1.
Reno was coming off a bye week when Mira Loma had to cancel his game with the Huskies.
That gave Reno more time to reflect on two losses and took away any frustration from the Grizzlies by taking a 35-0 first-half lead.
“We’re excited to be back on the football field,” Reno coach Jason Ehlen said. “After we got our butts kicked a couple of times, it was a tough week.”
Jackson Sellers and Hayden Parga each scored twice for the Huskies, with Drew Dutton, Breck Worthen and Nick Woodhead also scoring.
“We had a couple of tough weeks,” Dutton said.
The Huskies got most of their reinforcements in Thursday night’s game.
“Coach always says, ‘Play for your friends,'” Dutton said.
Galena was without a couple of key players, Ben Primka and Colson Kermode.
The games were played Thursday due to a shortage of officials in Nevada.
Plus:Shortage of officials means some days of high school football games will be moved
Reno hosts McQueen next week for Rivalry Week; while Galena is home to Damonte Ranch. Bishop Manogue greets Las Vegas, from southern Nevada Cass 4A.
Dutton said McQueen will seek revenge after the Huskies defeated them last season at Lancers Senior Night.
