Bills makes a strong opening night statement, plus fantasy football tips for the rest of Week 1

Happy friday to everyone! I hope you’re well.

Let’s get right to it.

Good morning everyone, but especially…

joseph allen can solve any problem, at any time. miller you can create any problem, at any time. Put that together, and Buffalo will be a huge problem for any opponent this season.

Super Bowl Favorite Bills stormed into Los Angeles and dominated the Super Bowl champion rams10-31, to make a statement on opening night.

  • Allen threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another.making several jaw-dropping plays in the second half, as Buffalo outscored Los Angeles 21-0.
  • It’s Allen’s 21st game with at least one passing touchdown and at least one rushing touchdown since entering the league in 2018, eight more than anyone else in that span.
  • Stefon Diggs Y Gabriel Davis combined for 12 receptions, 210 yards and two touchdowns.
  • The Bills fired Matthew Stafford seven times — the most Sean McVay-the trained team has ever allowed in a game- and he intercepted it three times. Miller had two of the sacks.

While the final score wasn’t remotely close, this was far from a breeze for Buffalo. After scoring a touchdown on their first drive, the Bills turned the ball over on three of their next four possessions: an interception by Allen that Isaiah McKenzie should have caught, a James Cook fumble on the first touch of his career, a field goal and then another interception by Allen, to reach the half tied 10-10.

Cue Josh Allen’s takeover, leading (and finishing) three straight touchdown drives to start the second half:

  • A touchdown pass to McKenzie
  • A ridiculous touchdown run on third and goal shortly after a 47-yard throw to Davis
  • A 53-yard touchdown pass to Diggs while running

After rushing just once for 7 yards in the first half, Allen rushed nine times for 49 yards and the aforementioned touchdown in the second. He hit two huge deep passes after throwing shorter things in the first half and yet managed to complete 26 of his 31 passes on the night for a 84 percent completion rate, a franchise record (min. 20 passes). There’s just nothing I couldn’t do, or wouldn’t do, last night.

On the other hand, Miller proved to be worth every penny of the giant contract he signed this offseason, living in the backfield of his former team. Five different Bills had a sack. Between Miller and recent early picks Gregory Rousseau Boogie Basham Y AJ Epenesa, the Bills have invested a ton in his pass rush. So far so good.

Overall, it’s a strong statement made by Buffalo (and a strong statement received by Caesars Sportsbook).

And not so good morning for…

fake images

Many of the biggest stars… Matthew Stafford Cooper Kupp Aaron Donald Y Jalen Ramsey — they are back for the Rams, but make no mistake: This is not the same team that won the Super Bowl seven months ago. At least not yet.

They left Odell Beckham Jr., Robert Woods, Andrew Whitworth, Austin Corbett and, of course, Miller. Those losses are not insignificant, and that showed:

  • allen robinsonhired to replace Beckham Jr. and/or Woods, he had a catch for 12 yards on just two targets.
  • Without Whitworth and Corbett, the new offensive line was under siege from Buffalo’s relentless pass rush.
  • Without Miller, the The Rams recorded just two sacks, the same number Miller had just.

The result? The second-biggest season-opening loss by a defending Super Bowl champion in history. Not good. It’s also the first time McVay, who is 0-1, has been under .500 for a season.

There has been exactly one game this NFL season to react to, so the natural tendency is to overreact. That’s all we have. The Rams will be fine. Robinson will create chemistry with Stafford, the line will gel and the defense will improve.

The Rams are too well coached and too talented for those things. No happen. But Thursday night was by far the rudest of awakenings.

Fantasy Football Fridays: Who to Start With, Who to Seat, and More ?

The NFL is back, which is incredible. That means fantasy football is back, which is also amazing. That also means the decision of who’s going to be in your starting lineup is back, which is… less than amazing. More like “keeping you up at night stressful”.

lucky for you, our fantasy gurus are here to help you make your decisions. We will start with the integral of Dave Richard Stars, Seats, Sleepers and Busts for each game. One of Dave’s best sleepers is…

  • Richard: trey lanceSleeper appeal puts him in the top 12 among fantasy quarterbacks this week … Any drawbacks Lance has as a passer are offset, at least in part, by his rush. He averaged 10.3 rushing attempts in the three games in which he played a large portion of the snaps and averaged 5.2 yards per carry.”

I love this shot: In two starts last year, Lance totaled 120 rushing yards on 24 attempts, and he’s facing a Bears team that is expected to fight. For what it’s worth, fantasy expert Jamey Eisenberg named Lance his Start of the Week in his excellent Start ‘Em & Sit Down columnalso.

Who will win the NL East? ⚾

fake images

The NL East went from snooze to suspense seemingly in the blink of an eye, and now we’re poised for a grand finale like the Mets Y braves compete for the division crown. The Mets led the division by 10 1/2 games in early June, but that lead is now just 1/2 games as Atlanta is the best 63-24 in the MLB since June 1.

The Mets haven’t been bad at all going 53-34 in that span, sixth in the MLB. Our experts picked their NL East champion in his last round table Batting Aroundand here is Matt Snyder’s opinion:

  • Snyder: I’m going with the Mets. I think it’s funny that both teams can win 100 games and one has to be a wild card after 88 wins took the division crown last season, then led to a World Series title. That has nothing to do with who will win it this year, obviously I’m just thinking out loud. I like that the Mets have such an easy schedule and seeing them wake up to dismantle the pirates On Wednesday, after three bad losses in a row, it helped a little.”
