Area Stock Car Racing: Drellos wins third race of the season at Albany-Saratoga Speedway

Last week’s results from Albany-Saratoga have Demetrios Drellos claiming his third win of 2022 in the NAPA DIRTcar mods at the Route 9 oval in his family-owned No. 111. Keith Flach and Jack Lehner completed the podium.

The 25-lap DIRTcar Northeast Paving and Sealcoat 602 sportsman division feature went to Tim Hartman Jr. as he finished ahead of Dave Baranowski and Chris Johnson. Rich Crane was victorious for the Eastwood Detailing DIRTcar professional stock division feature with full fenders, with Scott Towslee and Chad Jeseo rounding out the top three. Chris Crane Jr. captured the Haun Welding Sportsman Limited Division feature ahead of Mike Arnold and Taylor Watson.

Next Friday in Albany-Saratoga, the pro stock division will compete for one of the largest division payouts in the Northeast. Drive for Autism Awareness will pay a minimum of $2,500 to win, with a total prize pool of over $10,000. This event will help promote and educate fans about the resources available. as well as raising funds for the Greater Hudson Region Autism Society.

Last week’s results at Utica-Rome show Stewart Friesen returning to victory lane in Sunoco’s Modified Division 30-lap feature over JaMike Sowle and Alan Barker. Sowle rode a very strong race from the start, leading for many laps before Friesen passed for the lead.

Matt Janczuk scored the 25-lap Worthington Industries Sportsman Division 602 feature ahead of Josh Amodie and Payton Talbot. Josh Coonradt won the 20-lap Next Generation GraphiX Pro Stock Feature, beating Jason Morrison and Jay Corbin to the finish line.

On Saturday night, Lebanon Valley Speedway will host the 100-lap Mr. DIRT Track USA for mods. The lucky winner will receive a check for $25,500 and a guaranteed starting spot for the NAPA 200 at Super DIRT Week 50 in October at Oswego Speedway. Pit doors at the West Lebanon facility open at 3 pm, grandstands at 4 pm and racing at 6 pm General grandstand admission is $26 for adults. Sportsman, pro stocks and street stocks are also scheduled on the show.

New Deal Used Cars of Amsterdam sponsors Saturday night events at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. A full schedule of all weekly divisions will see action on the track. Pit doors open at 3 p.m., the grandstand at 4 p.m., fastest laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. General admission to the grandstand is just $8 for adults.

Last Sunday’s results from The Ridge were as follows. In the Red Chair DIRTcar crate 602 sports division, Garrett Poland was victorious over Ricky Quick and Justin Buff. This was the first win of 2022 for Poland, and it came in the 40-lap Hall of Fame DIRTcar Classic Eastern Region Series race. In the Yurkewecz Auto Crushers pro stock feature, Slater Baker claimed victory over Johnny Rivers and Ivan Joslin. Butchie Irwin was victorious in the Cherko-Fusco Realty Sportsman Limited Division feature over Mike Hill and Jonathan Feagles. Matt Mosher scored another victory in street action, beating Adam Tranka and Matt Wells to the finish line. Jay Ingersoll claimed another feature in DIRTcar’s stock mini single camera division followed by Wayne Russell Jr. and John Ray. Gina Voris won the DIRTcar mini stock dual-cam split feature over Bill Hillman and Jordan Ryder. Nathaniel Boesse in the All-Stars and Jaden Pierce in the juniors won the Northeast Paving and Sealcoat slingshot roles.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vermont, will run on Saturday and Sunday. This is your big Fabian Earth Moving Vermont 200 weekend. Pit doors open Saturday noon, grandstand 1:30pm, drivers meeting 2pm, fastest laps 2:30 pm and the races at 3 pm The racing divisions include limited athlete, rookie athlete, mini actions and mini sprints.

Sunday pit doors open at 1 p.m., grandstand at 3 p.m., drivers’ meeting at 3:30 p.m., fastest laps at 4 p.m. Vermont 200, paying $10,000 to the lucky winner.

On Sunday, the racing action will return to Utica-Rome Speedway as it hosts the New Yorker 50 for Modified STSS, presented by FX Caprara Car Companies. The Short Track Super Series feature will pay out $25,000 to the winner, the STSS box jock is also on the show, along with pro stock and limited jock. The pits open at 3 pm, the grandstands at 4 pm, the fastest laps at 6:15 pm and the races at 7 pm General admission to the grandstand is $30.

This coming Saturday, Brookfield Speedway will host its final auto racing event for 2022. Divisions scheduled to compete include crate 602 sportsman, pro stock/street stock and 4-cylinder. Pit doors open at 2 pm, grandstand at 4 pm, fastest laps at 5 pm and racing at 6 pm General admission to the adult grandstand is $10.

Next weekend (September 8-11) is the annual Adirondack Nationals in the town of Lake George. Although there are activities during the weekend, one of the most outstanding is the cruise. This coming Friday and Saturday cars will roll down Canada Street in an incredible parade of classic and historic motorized vehicles. Cruise time is from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm for both nights. When the weather is nice, it’s great to see families and people of all ages lining up on both sides of the street enjoying the nostalgic days of many years ago.
