At the National Games on Thursday, Aakarshi Kashyap from Chattisgarh and B Sai Praneeth from Telangana put on outstanding performances to win the gold medal in women’s and men’s singles badminton respectively. In a lopsided final, the Telangana duo of N Sikki Reddy and Gayatri Gopichand defeated national champions Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam in straight sets by the score of 21-14, 21-11 to clinch women’s doubles gold. Meanwhile, the men’s doubles gold was won by the Keralan team of PS Ravikrishna and Sankarprasad Udaykumar who defeated Hariharan Amsakarunan and R Ruban Kumar by a score of 21-19, 21-19. Ashwini Ponnappa and K Sai Prateek of Karnataka won their first tournament gold as a mixed doubles duo with ease, defeating Rohan Kapoor and Kanika Kanwal of Delhi 21-16, 21-13.
