I recently have purchased a 89 NA GLL.
This thread will show my progress in bringing this Z from the crusher.

I have bought so far a complete VG30ET engine(bored 40 over with port and polish, should be good for 300 hp) with a T3/T4 T04B turbo, complete intercooler setup (custom), intrax suspension with camber upgrade, electric fan, and complete 3 inch exhaust. I purchased all this from a 85T for $700. The engine is a 88 SS and ECU is from a 84, and crankshaft pulley is from a 85. So the donor car is Frankensteined too. Oh yeah and a complete Prothane bushing kit.

Do remember, I love junkyard gems. There wont be no crazy over priced parts from JAPAN. There is plenty out there for my ride that has been heaped, or another model car that has better parts that I can upgrade with. Thats how I roll, cheap speed and performance.

When I first got it home.

Was taking the old seats out and found some moisture on the carpet, and found rust. So I have stripped the carpet (in the process of painting) and doing some rust prevention. Will post pics of the finished product.

Pulled the front suspension, engine cross member and the intercooler setup today. I will post up pics when I get it all cleaned up. Which will be most this week. I want to pull the rear suspension this coming Sunday, but will need help. But all looks usable and will be easily reassembled.

Well been busy lately, but had some time to fix my leaky heater core. Who ever owned this Z before me, broke alot of shit with out fixing. Just drove it till it wouldnt anymore. So I have the good fortune to repair it.Here is some pics of my controlled chaos.

There is all my interior in the hatch.

The old ragged VG with 271000 miles, I hope it will last a couple months while I clean up the Turbo engine.

Here is some goodies for the suspension upgrade and refresh that I was missing. Just need one more bushing set for the front torsion rods. So if anyone knows a good place, drop a line 89 NA.

Man at least you'll never be bored... that's a hell of a project.

That motor has some serious miles.

Looks like fun, I'll be ripping apart my interior here soon too. New carpets, sound deadening removal, rewiring, new seats, etc.

Get the Prothane or Energy Suspension master kit. It will come with both style tension rod bushings. I think I have the ones for 88-89 cars that I don't need.

I wouldnt mind getting those off you, got any pics. I have the Prothane master kit that I bought off a guy but it didnt have the front tension rod bushings for the 88-89 models.

You're gonna love the prothane bushings Charlie. They made a huge difference in Phil/Swine's Z31.

PS - Preciate you letting us borrow your cherry picker. The STi motor is in!! Just gotta hook the A/C, TMIC, Radiator and a few other small things up and she will be on the road again.

That should be for the 8/88-89 cars.

How much do you want for them? Thats about all that I am missing as far suspension poly goes.

NissanEgg

$25 sound good? Let me know and I can get them out of storage and bring them down to Auburn.

Crankee

That will work for me. Just send me a PM when you get them around.

Masterbanter, I seen you yesterday on the MX3 at Opelika Rd and N. Dean St. I was pointing at you so my girlfriend could what was making the noise. I told her that was the sound of horsepower.:D

Everytime I see a MX3, it reminds me of my 93 Nissan NX2000 I had that was built for Auto-X, full suspension setup, big Wilwood brakes, Cusco chassis bars, 8-lb flywheel and 6-puck clutch, bone stock SR20DE, plus T-TOPS!

Had time today to put the interior (at least the front) back in its place and added the gray leather seats. The colors dont clash to bad.

Any good suggestions on steering wheels and gauge pods.

Nice!

We just installed a set of those brakes onto my friend's S14 and they are sweet!

NissanEgg

Lucky bastard. Me want some Z32 brakes too. Are they the aluminum or steel calipers?
On the steering wheels, the stock GLL or the SS wheels look good. Any Nissan wheel will fit, but if you take the GLL wheel off, the cruise won't work unless you rig up the buttons for it.

Crankee

Steel 26mm, got the turbo hubs too on ebay for 125 with new bearings. Now I just need the 26mm rotors for I think the 90 NA 300zx. With the 26s I wont have any clearance issues on the stock turbo rims.

Great find big guy. I was just going off of what Swine told me.

jsta240

btw the 30mm rotors are lots easier to find and cheaper (napa), and get some z32 wheels or the starion aka the sickness and youd be set.

Crankee

Did some more work on the Z32 calipers( cleaned , new seals and dust boots and a light cylinder hone, and paint), I now have everything to complete the conversion just need time to do it. Also picked up a set of the 88 turbo wheels, I stripped and repainted and wrapped them in some new rubber.

Sweet brakes Charlie. I think those are better than the stock 350z brakes. Car's gonna be bad A when she's done. I need to come check it out again after I get back from STL.

Had some time at the shop to install the new diff mount, no more clunk.

NissanEgg
06-01-2008, 05:27 PM
How much of a PITA is the diff mount to change out?

Crankee
06-01-2008, 09:41 PM
Not hard at all if you have a car lift and air tools. I bet its alot harder if your on your back.

Crankee
06-05-2008, 08:15 PM
Well its lowered, had off and was able to use the lift at work. Put most of the Prothane bushing kit on. Will do the rest when I put the turbo engine in and the modified subframe for the camber.

Did the calipers too while I was doing the springs.

the front done
