When & where?
First suggestion: Mt. Cheaha run.
Second suggestion: Meet at Brad's shop. Brad grills BBQ for us.
CHEAHA! not interested in sitting at a car shop in bham. If you wanna hang out at a Z shop then we can meet at FORGED PERFORMANCE in ATLANTA then head over to the VARSITY.

The ARS.net BBQ is on the 9th and I am out of town on the 14-17 so I guess it depends on date if I can make it or not.
My vote goes to Cheaha or if anyone wants to see about group rates we could check out the cart track.

For clarification..
The reason we meet up in Birmingham is because it's practically in the center of the state, so a general meeting location for everyone. I make the 2 hour drive from Auburn every time and there are other guys who come from even farther away (Ryne for example). I love driving on curvy roads as much or more than the next guy and would LOVE to get another trip together to go to the Dragon or go run Cheaha. My experience from the last time we had a drive is that it was hard to keep everyone in the group together, we kept getting stuck behind traffic, etc. It's something that you could go out by yourself or with a passenger and have the same experience doing. You can't socialize with other members while doing it and in that case, bigger groups = not as fun. I do think we should AT LEAST have one meet a month that is in a central location (Birmingham is a nice, big area with lots of places to meet up) so that everyone from all around can come and meet new people and talk about their cars. If you have no desire to socialize with fellow Z/G enthusiasts or find the meets too boring for your adrenaline-filled fast-paced lifestyle then you aren't required to show up .
On the other hand, I would also be down for trying to put together driving events such as encouraging people to show up to the ALSCCA Solo events, plan a trip to the Dragon, rent out TGP, etc.
Disclaimer: This is purely an opinion that I have and nobody else is required to feel the same. I encourage others to chime in and tell us what you think. How should we handle the meets/drives for the month? Do you think we should change up meeting locations? How interested are you in being part of the Alabama G/Z community outside of the forums?

i have to agree. the turnout last weekend was impressive, even though it rained and some of the members got left out.
just a question, would it be a good idea to find a place or sponsor to host our meet in the same location, with a back up location just in case of bad weather. it may eliminate the confusion of last time and it seem to work for the exotics that meet at logans on 280.

I think bham will prove to be the best for everyone...I know its not close for some (ryne for ex.) but it is in the center of the state...plus we could meet up with the exotics sometime...just my 2cents.....
I think bham will be excellent if we can just get some good weather....To quote Frank at the last meet, "The rain just follows us man."
On the other hand, cheaha would be a good meeting spot for smaller groups....like say if someone just wanted to go riding some weekend that there wasnt a meet..just b/c at cheaha, there tend to be a lot of motorcycle riders out, and that could get dangerous with the weekend warriors on suicide sleds cutting corners.....so bham would be safer too :)

I agree that the main purpose of a "meet" is just that: to meet up with people, see new faces, hang out, and talk about a common interest. If as many people show up at the next meet as did this past meet, then I really think it would be difficult to do any spirited driving, especially at a place like cheaha. Also, I know a few people didn't show up because of the weather, so I really think if weather permits, the August meet should show a great turnout. It is great to see people's faces when there is a 20 car line of g's and z's :D. Ryne, show up at the next meet and I'll get your meal for you. I hate that you drove all that way only to have to turn around and drive right back. Birmingham does seem like the best central location. There wouldn't be enough parking at Brad's shop to accommodate everyone. Just my .02 cents.

I think that if the group would like to do a bigger met like Cheaha that we should set a date that everyone should agree on. Just not through it out there for the months meet.
With everyone coming from different places it really is kind of hard to try and make a meet every month. If your driving over a hundred miles and then drive when you get somewhere and then drive back home it can be exhuasting. Not to mention costly.
I would like to make the suggestion that we make plans to do a run on Cheaha in October somewhere in the middle of the month. This might be a way to get a group to warm up to it a little better. Also you said DRAGON I got bad ju ju from that place. But that is another place that we really need to find when to go. Their are groups from a different Z clubs or forums that go up their and It would be cool if the bamaGZ group could roll together for that. I've seen pics somewhere on it alot of Z's.
Another note: How many people are from below Bham closer to Mongt. Not to be a separatist but if the community is getting bigger. Then someone that doesn't want to drive over 200 miles in a day for a meet could start doing a met in Montgomery so people could drive from further south and make a meet.
There could be more than one meet a month in two cities. Then quarterly or bimonthly get together for a big meet. Or for a run on like Cheaha or some big track event. just some food for thought.

I don't know but Brad told me that we could have a meet at his shop and his wife could cook some stuff, etc. I believe he said he couldn't do it the weekend of the 16th because thats his anniversary. He said he might have to talk to the new guy who is renting the space out beside him, but if we can get the whole parking lot, then there are about 20 spaces. I was a little worried that there might not be enough parking spots, but I think 20 or so should be enough. If anyone else would want to do this, I don't know when school starts, but we should probably shoot for this before then. Also, I know some of you guys were talking about going to that go cart track in columbiana, so maybe that would be a good time to ride down there and do that since it's only about 20 minutes or so from Brad's shop.

I agree. A lot of people had mentioned a Cheaha run in the beginning of this thread and the more I have been thinking about it, it would be nice to get a change of scenery going on. I think that would be sweet to go run Cheaha, grab some food, and then rep the BamaGZ at the Rainbow City car meet.
I will be in the process of getting moved next week so I wouldn't be able to make it back to B'ham but if those that are interested would like to go grill out at Brad's shop next weekend and then on the weekend of the 23rd we get everyone out for the day to Cheaha/car meet.
I think if we could base our meets around local car events (shows, meets, autox) and then get food/pictures afterward it would be a great way to get our name out there and show everyone that BamaGZ is serious about promoting the club.

Great idea. I'll see what I can do about getting the decals made before the meet too.
Lee or Jamie would know of a better backup plan area in case of rain..
I think it would also be awesome sometime this fall to get a HUGE G/Z meet over at Sharif's place and involve as many of the Southeast G/Z clubs as possible.

I have always liked Sharif......very nice guy.......really honest. He has always give me very good prices on tuning and parts. So I cant speak for your experience with him, but everytime I have been around him or had work done there very nice and professional and Sandy his wife is super sweet. Talk about being nice....I was gonna get the EVO X set up for auto cross......talked to Robert Fuller with Robi Spec....said he would fly in and set it up if he had a shop to work out of with scales. I called Sharif he said sure no problem......he let Robert use his shop and all his tools no charge and even stayed til about 3am.
It is not about supporting local shops .......it is about supporting the shops that IMHO are the best with the cars they work on. Z33s Forged, the 240 I took to Florida to Enjuku Racing. The Evo was done by Robi Spec not at his shop I was not taking it to California, like I said above he worked out of Sharif's shop.
I have never seen a 350Z you have worked on Brad, I am sure you do excellent work. You should post up Videos or photos of the Zs you work on and when you tune them. I would really like to check it out.

Not to rag on Sharif, but I'd be nice to a customer if they paid me a ton of money... Sharif did go above and beyond allowing someone else to use his shop.
Also, I think Brad may understand his limitations in that he can build a great engine but leave the tuning up to Sharif. That is a compliment IMO and it takes someone that cares to pass on the business to a tuner with more experience with a particular engine.

I decided to go with the APS twin tuner kit.
In addition to the kit I'm getting a new clutch and flywheel, exhaust and test pipes.
All said and done, parts and labor including a tune by sharif with a turbo XS management the bill comes to just shy of 13K.
I'm sure I could have had it done for less somewhere else but I've heard a lot of good things about his shop. I've tried to do a bit of research due to the significant financial investment and would much rather pay him a bit more for me to know it was done right, I don't have the slightest idea what I'm doing.
I talked to him quite a lot about the cost of the kit itself and some of the other parts. I felt we came to a pretty good agreement. He's been pretty good about keeping in touch with me on the order status and always seems to have time when i call. I'm sure he's really sick of me and my questions, I'm still trying to understand everything that's going on with turbos.

Sounds like a awesome set up cant wait to see the results. I agree with you its better to pay a little more to get it done right the first time, instead of having to get stuff fixed and the headaches that come with a poor job.

Been really busy lately moving into my new house so I haven't had much of a chance to post. I won't be able to make the meet on the 23rd since it's my sister's birthday and we are gonna be down here throwing a party for her. Look forward to seeing you guys at another "mini meet" or the September meet.
