View Full Version : Does tire shine affect tires differently?

I just got new tires back in January. My old tires were Bridgestone Potenzas and my tire shine made them look glossy and I really liked the way they looked.
However, my new Toyo T1Rs don't look nearly as glossy as the Bridgestones and it doesn't seem to last nearly as long.
Could it just be a difference in the rubber between the two tires, where one won't absorb it like the other would? I've attached pics.

It's more then likely the rubber differences. There's also more sidewall and less writing on the stockers which might make a difference on shine.
Using the same tire shine I assume? What's the best tire shine anyway? I know some make the tires look dried out and old after a couple days and others don't.

Yep, I'm using the same tire shine. I use this stuff called Number One Dressing that I really like. It gives the tires a really dark black look.
I was also told to try this stuff (http://www.autogeek.net/wg4700.html).

David, If I had to guess I would think it has something to do with either how long the tires were cured after they were molded or the different types of rubbers, oils, accelerators, etc. that were involved in the mixture. Just know that even though the T1Rs don't appear to be as shiny as the Potenzas, you are riding on a MUCH better tire.
I use ArmorAll Extreme Tire Shine Gel on my tires and it seems to work great for me. I prefer gel over spray just because it is easier to apply and I don't have to worry about getting it all over my wheels
