Nikon D40?

I am looking into buying a SLR camera finally! After a few months of research and looking around it seems the Nikon D40 is the best camera for my price range. Anyone have this camera or care to share any feedback?

I think u can get a D50 * just the body for a very decent price, and the lenses are not bad either. check it out. C

Yeah my pops has a Canon 20D and it's amazing, just out of my price range for right now. I had been looking at both the Nikon D40 and D50. The D40 is smaller and has the top display incorporated into the LCD screen on the back while the D50 is a little bulkier and has the top display located near the shutter button. Also, the D40 isn't as widely accepting to auto focus lenses as it has to specifically have a Nikon AF-S lens to be able to use the autofocus feature, whereas the D50 is more compatible with a wide variety of lenses. I can get the D40 brand new with a 18-55mm AF-S lens for $385 shipped. A 2gb SanDisk card on NewEgg for about $15 and then I will be ready to go for now :happy: Of course, if photography is anything like cars I'm sure I will get bored with my setup and sell it for something nicer one day in the future. This will be a decent start though.
