I bought this one in late July in Marietta, GA. So far, I've primered and painted a few spots to prevent rusting. The floors are in great shape, save for one rear corner (fairly isolated). I'll need to place some patch panels, particularly in the driver's dogleg.

Got the car running, albeit with a 1981 AFM (76 AFM on the way). Replaced all fuses in the fuse panel as well as the drop resistors, and that seemed to do the trick.

Done thusfar:
Relocated the CHTS from the thermostat housing to the 280zx location
Wired the car to use the ZX distributor and ignition module
Cleaned the gas tank, Bill Hirsch gas tank etch; MEK
Replaced exhaust manifold bolds w/ stainless studs from MSA
Replaced intake/manifold gasket
Painted intake (N42) and fuel rail
Put the interior and engine bay together

Got any updates? I'd love to see how it's coming along!

I haven't done anything to it here recently. I tried to test the waters on what I could get in terms of a trade for it on craigslist (bunch of flaky people there), and didn't get anything remotely interesting.

I'm actually planning on doing a simple, single stage paint job as soon as possible (olive drab). I'm trying to get my dad to find some sheet metal for us to work with. Found a place in Snead, AL with some 16 gauge steel, but that's a little too thick to work with. Tractor Supply, believe it or not, has some small sheets that I could use. It's a little pricey, but if my dad can't find anything then that's another outlet.

The Bill Hirsch tank sealer stuff didn't go so well. I was good after all the etching, but once I added the white coating stuff.... I noticed some flakes that had come loose after the cleaning and etching stages. I should've gotten that crap out, but it's kinda hard working with such an awkward shaped gas tank.

I messed that crap up big time when I tried rinsing the white sealer stuff out, so I had to get some methyl ethyl ketone to strip all Bill Hirsch's stuff out. The MEK produced some volatile vapor stuff. Eh, anyway, I cleaned the tank and there were no leaks or rust-thru. So, I installed it alongside a filter before the fuel pump (externally mounted one). (I also installed a fuel filter on the return line). So, it's triple filtered.

My intake boot was so old that it had a bunch of cracks in it, so I sealed it with some Seal All stuff I bought at autozone.

I've driven it a total of about 7 miles (down the street and back), and have gotten all the kinks worked out. I'm leaving it bumperless for the time being. I will definately abstain from using the period correct bumpers (280z bumpers). I think that they ruin an already funny looking 2+2's form by making the front end ridiculously long/awkward. I'll either get some 240z/early 260z bumpers or one of those fiberglass kits from MSA sometime in the future.
