View Full Version : Plenum leak question

I think my plenum is leaking (again) from the six bolts in the center. It was doing fine after Buddy and I installed it, but a few weeks later it started leaking. James and I rechecked everything when I was getting it dynoed last time and it had been running fine since then, aside from idling about 1k rpms. Last night, I noticed the rpms dropping again and the car was sputtering a little while it was idling. I havne't checked the bolts yet to see if that's where the leak is, but I'm guessing it is.
So, my question is what makes it leak sometimes and not others? And is there anything else I can do about it? I know you have to be careful with those plenum bolts and not overtighten them, but I don't want to have to keep checking them every few weeks

I think you should buy some washers to replace the existing ones (if there aren't any you need some) and a lb/inch torque wrench so that you can tighten them once and know they're correct. Let me know if you want a hand with it man, I'd be glad to help get this right.

The instructions say something about standard washers and o-ring washers. What's the different, and why would the back bolts use standard and o-ring and the fronts just use o-ring?

THats weeird. A intake leaking from the bolts. Something isnt right. The change from cold to hot can make it leak and not leak. When thinghs heat up they expand hince leaks. Did u put a new metal intake gasket on when u did this work?

No, should I go buy two new ones...one to replace the stock gasket and one to replace the one that came with the plenum spacer?

I own a smoker and a pressure tester do u need that. With this the leak can be found. If you can come to me it is quick test and easy to diagnose. Sound like unmeter air leak to me I have what it takes to find/fix the problem. unmetered air will cause a lean condition and burn a valve so get it fixed asap. hit me up if u need help.

Yeah, let's try it and see. What's your schedule like? I've got time today, but I've got to be somewhere at 7:30, or tomorrow after church works, too. Just let me know.
