Sry to have waiting so long on an update. currently i'm stuck waiting for the custom Intake Manifold that i'm having made. it's taking awhile and i've already had the builder get up the guys ass once. so we'll see what happens. once the IM is done its only a matter of 3-4 days after that the car will be finished.

i got a Tomei Super Hicas Eliminator (mechanical and electrical) - 12,800 yen :P or $145

03-23-2011, 08:06 AM
ya i know. it's killing me waiting all this time, but my dad is prolly selling his RX8 and that leaves 2 vehicles... so i need to get my S chassis back asap.
should have manifold next week sometime. and prolly have the build finished the week after that. i'm going to go with them to get it tuned. shooting for 350whp on about 14psi. ill prolly keep it around 300whp just driving around tho... and kick it up if someone wants to mess around. that HKS EVC-S is nice.
i just don't want to push it too much. not quite sure what the stock crank and rods can take. not to mention the tranny. from what i've seen ppl use 400 at the crank as a "safe" power limit. maybe once my finances are back in order i can look at building the snot out of it or swapping in a RB25 which almost all my parts will transfer.
91rb20s13
03-23-2011, 09:15 PM
Went ahead and got the ebay intake mainfold with VQ45 TB Flange for 450 shipped from Thailand ahhahaha. Though it seems they have a shop in CA and MI. The company KS Racing actually doesn't look half bad... i'd border on saying they look legit. Considering they are a JUN Dealer.... its prolly a JUN knockoff design.
Here's their website http://ksracing.net/intake.php
They even have a forum and such so i'm not too concerned. Looking at some of their past projects, they look pretty beast. Eager to see what they send me.

After having that manifold powder coated, I would have a machine shop check the mating flange to make sure it is still true and straight. You know that they have to put the parts in an oven to bake the paint, which is possible to slightly warp the flange.

Ya had it measured when we got it back to see if it needed to be machined... builder said it was "straight as an arrow".

Car is finally in the shop this week. Instead of sitting outside, lol. Fuel rail and injectors were mounted to the Intake Manifold. Last i heard we were waiting on the Q45 TB gasket from infiniti. but i believe dustin got that Monday. i'll pop in there today or tomorrow to check up on it. Dustin said assembly was happening this week to get it ready to be tuned.

If at all possible, i will take some good pics.

Who's doing your build? A shop or an individual
a shop that is run but an individual. he's a 1 man show. He's the only guy around here with a shop that knows what the hell he's doing when it comes to RB's
91rb20s13
07-28-2011, 01:23 AM
ok so after a lengthy 3-4 hr chat with my builder, the following things are being added...
Braille B3121 Racing battery w/(Black Powder-coated) Mounting kit - 215
Pre-spliced RB25det harness - 525 (will make the wire tuck easier and insure proper install, Dustin said that he's not sure the ABS is properly wired up and that they used a majority of the RB harness instead of a majority of the KA harness which is backwards. Also will be ready for a planned future RB25 swap)
Do to the intercooler piping's new route, i can't relocate my battery at this time to the trunk as my trunk is fully enclosed with my 2 15in kicker subs. So my only route is a smaller battery that still has the same or more juice than the stocker, hence the braille.
The injector insulators came in. Only thing he said he wanted to do was paint the fuel rail since with the nice new temp coated intake manifold and the turbo/turbo manifold ... the rail looked a bit out of place so its getting painted gloss black.
The car has a solid deadline as it has to be ready to be driven down to Z1 for 2-3 days to be tuned by mid-late August with Dustin's rb25 s13 and another guy's CA18 s13. Some time between then when a majority of the work is going to be done, i will go up to the shop and stay all day to supervise and assist. At that time ill have pictures.
i'm pushing him pretty hard to have it done before i start school on 17 august, but we'll see. I want it done right and if it takes longer to do so then so be it.
91rb20s13
08-04-2011, 02:08 PM
Nissan is taking forever to get the rest of the injector seals in. apparently they got some in but not all. -_-
Also waiting on the RC injector clips to come in.
Dropped the Braille off on Tuesday and took a good look at everything.
The left side fuse box has got to be moved as it currently sits in the way of the Intake Manifold/TB. So we are also waiting for the new harness to get here in order to continue. Engine will be getting a Wire Tuck.
*Updated first post with new parts and prices.

The lowdown:
Intake and Exhaust manifold going to the welders.
New Wiring Harness
As she sits 30 Aug
Dustin's dumbass had them accidently weld the dump flange to the manifold and not the intake air flange... -_- his bad... his fix.
New Coilpacks :)
And as you can see on the next 3 photos... the coolant line and neck do not fit... therefore a new one will be made.

Is that turbo manifold from Ebay? Seen lots of them that look exactly like that and eventually crack like crazy where all the pipes merge together. Also the welds inside the runners at the manifold flange are very poor and impede air flow (aka no smooth transition).

Yes it is an eBay manifold from Thailand, that's why i paid extra to get it coated and we're using a thermal gasket but i shouldn't have any issues with heat cracking this manifold. It's fairly thick aluminum (doesn't flex or wave) and the runners are the original rb20 runners. The only issues I'm having currently are the stock RB coolant lines fitting up with the the neck and radiator. Fabing something up to fix that. it was about as good as i could get without going for a RIPS or similar $1200 intake manifold as Greddy does not make one for the RB20. It should be fine for what I'm wanting to push. There is a good amount of people around here with them on their rb20 cars and they haven't seen any cracking.

Picking up the car next weekend. The street ain't ready. Too bad I have to break in the new clutch before i can put it through the paces. Videos and pictures will ensue. I will miss the meet most likely since I had to give the welder till the 18th to get it done. I may pick it up saturday... if so i can still make it... but it may be sunday. Just depends on how quickly he gets it done.

TB (Q45) to IC done (2.5in piping). With HKS Version III BOV. The BOV can swivel and point whatever direction I want it to.

Got the 3in mid-pipe in but didn't take a pic because it was too dark.
IC piping done with HKS BOV set in the position I want.
That blue coupler is not mine. I have a black one coming :P Intake is on order and will be completed this weekend. Also the Oil Catch can is going to be pulling vacuum from the intake pre-turbo.
Downpipe Heat-wrapped.
OEM GTR FMIC fits perfectly.
Soon.

Various T-Clamps and Hoses + a 3in Honeycomb Filter (Red Foam) will be in by Friday to finish off the Intake and IC piping.

you have to take a pic of the mess the upside-down oil filter makes the first time you change the oil lol

ahahhaha Ya, I'm prolly going to have them remount that upside down... or i will just do it after they are done. I can see it now. Then again... I may just be able to pre-drain it by detaching the hose from the bottom. I'll have to see what works best for me.
either way is easier than trying to get both arms on either side of the IM from the top or from underneath the car and the last one I did with it in stock position I had to put a screwdriver threw it to torque it off.

That's because you put the filter on way too tight. Oil filters on need to be snugged up, then about a 1/2 turn after that, and that's all. Anymore than that and you wear the threads out on the filter stud.

Ya, it was one that wasn't put on by me. hahahah I also like Fram because they put that rough black stuff on their filters that allow you to get a good grip... this was like some sort of white z32 filter that was slick and was put on there when the swap was initially done.

Sounds like the life of a 240 owner! Haha... (But seriously.)
I think Fram filters suck by the way. Purolator PureOne filters are grippy too. Just my opinion though.

Stay away from Fram filters. They have been getting a bad rep lately. They have been having issues with the filter pleats coming apart and getting lodged in the oil passages of the block, causing oil starvation and major engine damages.

hm... maybe i'm mistaken... its a white filter with the black grippy stuff on the end... i think its puralator that I use. Fram is orange.

The car should be back at the shop today or tomorrow to finish up the last new things that where left, then she's ready for a crank.

Well all was good until we noticed that the IC piping didn't have the beaded edges when it was welded back together (would have blown off at low boost). So we had to send the piping back to the welder. Got that back Sunday. Only thing left is wiring up the Z32 MAF and then we can fire it up and get it based tuned for break in.

First Crank Up
She cranked on the first try. The ticking is due to the motor having set so long and the lifters had to get well oiled. That settled down after about 30 min or so. It was running high idle, apparently due to a crack in the Intake Manfold (runner 1) which will be repaired and then we will try again and then set timing. She'll be on the road soon.

Put the manifold back on and it still didn't seal. Had to have our welder cut out the welds that the fucking Chinese did... and freshly reweld it back together. At least now I don't have to worry about the other welds cracking now, but holy crap. Also the Timing cover and CAS both got painted as well. Hoping to get up there today. Dustin said all that was left was getting all of the vac hoses and such situated, then crank up and set timing. Then it will be good to go.

It's almost road worthy.

Well, the RC 550s I got were too short and I had to spend another 430$ for some FiveO 550s that fit right in. No more vacuum leaks tho. But, now the plugs are fouled so those have to be cleaned. Dustin turned the 550s down to a 440 fuel map. It was sitting at 10 AFR at 3-4k RPM lol. She's running strong, just need to do a few last minute things and fine tuning on the a/f. Going to try and finish it up today.

Everything is done, just a little fine tuning on the base tune and I'll be bringing her home.
