BamaGZ Club AutoX - March 29, 2009

Lee called me earlier about doing a club race at the AutoX this month and it sounded like a pretty good idea. I was planning on headin' up there anyway, but it seems like it would be a great opportunity for fun and club publicity. I will have to let Lee post up the technical information about it.

The CLUB RACE is a new thing that AL SCCA has put in this year. So far the MINI COOPERS have done it. The way it works is

Everyone in BAMA GZ shows up at auto cross, tells them they are a member of BAMA GZ. Everyone that is with BAMA GZ will race against each other. If some of the cars are different classes the times will be PAX'd. If 10 cars show up with BAMA GZ you will get money back from your registration fee. At the end of the day Trophies will be given out to the fastest times in the BAMA GZ club. You only race against cars in your club. So you only race against club members. Should be fun for you guys to do, good photo op and you can talk smack on the board about who is the fastest at auto cross in the BAMA GZ club.

AL SCCA also has a NOVICE class this year for anyone that wants to be in it that has not run more than 3 events. We have a NOVICE meeting every morning and a walking of the course with one of the NOVICE instructors to help figure out the best line and the layout of the course. Sara and C are the NOVICE instructors and they will be happy to ride along with any NOVICE drivers and give them pointers on how to be quicker and the correct line to drive.

I just thought it would be a good way to promote the BAMA GZ club, there are always people there from Huntsville and Atlanta and other regions as far away as Mississippi. I think you guys would really enjoy racing against each other. As usual afterwards everyone goes to the neighborhood Bar and Grille to hang out and eat.

If you guys get a few that are interested just holler at Jamie he can set it all up for you. It is the most fun you can have legally :D

My Z is nowhere near completion. I've never driven the Tsuru in an Auto-X event, but had plenty of wheel time in the old NX2000.

As of right now it looks like I'm going to have to drive up to B'ham to get my tires mounted and balanced on Friday as nowhere seems to be open on Sunday. Have to work in Auburn on Saturday from 2-7. Unless I can find a good, reputable place that's open on Sunday to do the mounting/balancing then I don't know if I am going to make it unless someone wants to donate gas monies :D Driving back and forth between Auburn and Birmingham twice in 2 days FTMFL :thumbsdown: I'll keep you guys posted.

The Evo is set up for auto cross why would I want to bring the Z? Auto cross is why I got the EVO.

The other rear tire was finally worn out so I just decided to get a whole new pair to keep them even. Maybe this weekend I will finally take it out of the back seat and take some tread depth measurements. You might be able to find another one somewhere and then end up with a bargain set of tires.
